Chapter 7 - Interior Systems
Driving a motorhome is similar to driving a car. You have an ignition switch, gear-
shift controls, turn signals, and dash components. As you sit in the driver’s seat the
center of the cluster includes tachometer, speedometer, fuel gauge, oil gauge, tem-
perature gauge, and amp meter. Switches may have symbols to describe their
function. See pages 40 and 41 for more detailed information on the function of each
switch. Switch locations may be different from model to model.
The dash radio can be played without turning the ignition key “on” provided that the
battery disconnect is in the “use” position. For units with the home theater, the dash
radio can only be played if the ignition is in the “accessory” or “run” position. The
cruise controls are on the turn signal lever. You can set, resume, and disengage the
cruise control from this location.
Located to the left of the driver is the gear selector. The electronic uses a push but-
ton key pad with an economy mode. The number in the digital display is the highest
forward gear range available in the selected position. If the display is ashing, the
shift is inhibited. Be sure the service brake is applied when making this selection.
See the Chassis Owner’s Manual for more information.
Your motorhome is equipped with an engine block heater. This heater will assist
starting the engine in freezing temperatures. The heater is plugged into a 120 volt re-
cept in the engine compartment. The switch is located by the bed base or rear wall.
The power switch is a standard 120 volt switch and is powered by either the shore
line (when plugged into a park outlet) or by the motorhomes generator. You should
use the engine heater if the ambient temperatures are expected to be 20 degrees
F (+20°F) or below. Turn the switch on and the indicator light will glow. This will
glow as long as there is power to the switch. Remember to turn off the switch when-
ever you start the engine or when the ambient temperature is above 20 degrees
F (+20°F). If the switch is left in the ON position the engine heater will turn on every
time you plug in the shore line power or start the generator.
During winter seasons most truck stops and reputable lling stations have winter
blend diesel fuels available. In sub freezing temperatures #2 diesel fuel may form
small wax crystals that can block the fuel system. At sub zero temperatures the fuel
can thicken and become slushy. If this happens, have the vehicle towed to a heated
facility to thaw the fuel system. Commercial products are available called anti-gel ad-
ditives to help control this situation. Plan your destinations to avoid any problems
that may be associated with waxing or gelling.
Refer to your chassis manual for the proper fuel speci cations
and additives.
